Focused on Gynecologic and Menopausal Care
Dr. Pam has not practiced obstetrics in about eight years. She will not be leaving to deliver any babies or take care of obstetric emergencies. Dr. Pam is focused on the gynecologic patient, her issues, and helping you, the patient, get through menopause safely, sanely, and well-educated.
Specific Interest in Peri-Menopausal and Post-Menopausal Issues
Dr. Pam’s specific area of interest is in taking care of the patient from the age of 40 and up. She realizes that no one has prepared the 40 something-year-old woman for the changes that are going to take place when she reaches menopause. There are so many things that a peri-menopausal woman can do to prepare for the upcoming changes in her life. Dr. Pam will work with the already menopausal woman to reverse some of the changes that have occurred in her life and in her body.
The loss of libido during the perimenopausal transition can be devastating for a marriage. Dr. Pam will sit down and talk to you (and even your partner) to discuss the changes that have occurred, the decrease in desire for sexual touching or intercourse, and the solutions to fix this terrible problem.
The inability to sleep can be upsetting for anyone. But for a woman taking care of teenage children, a spouse, the household, the family pets, the finances for the home, and a stressful career it can be devastating. The perimenopausal and menopausal transitions, unfortunately, come with profound sleep disturbances. Dr. Pam will sit down with you and try to find out the stressors, hormonal problems, and medical problems which may be contributing to profound insomnia. Together, you will come up with a plan to help rectify this situation and sleep peacefully through the night.
Any menopausal woman knows that hot flashes can profoundly affect your normal life and activities of daily living. There are hormonal and non-hormonal treatments for hot flashes. Youand Dr. Pam can sit down and go over both options and decide which is best for you and your symptoms.
For decades, women have been very leery of hormone therapy, but since the year 2001 (with the release of the Women’s Health Initiative Study), they have been downright frightened away from the consideration of hormones. Dr. Pam will go through the benefits and risks of hormone therapy for your symptoms and assist you in making a completely informed decision about whether this would be beneficial to you in treating the bothersome symptoms of menopause.
Alternatives to Hormones
There are some women who cannot – or will not – consider hormone replacement. There are several alternatives to steroid hormones that can be used to manage menopausal symptoms. Each of your symptoms will be addressed individually and treated to your satisfaction.
Mood & Anxiety Help
The mood swings and overwhelming anxiety that occurred during the peri-menopausal transition can severely affect relationships between family members, spouses, coworkers, and friends. If mood swings are affecting your life, Dr. Pam will discuss the stressors in your life, your anxieties (real, imagined, or anticipated), and help you come up with a solution to rectifying this. Whether medication or counseling is the answer, Dr. Pam will work with you to get your life back on track and help you stabilize your mood.
